roasted goat and a film
Category: life in camp | Date: Sep 29 2007 | By: admin
Today, I spent part of my day hunting for a goat. Its destination –barbecue. Before our meeting tomorrow we have a few things to celebrate. One is the motorbike that has been added to our arsenal.
Second, and what we had been holding as a surprise, is a short film we had worked on with some of the Lion Guardians.
In the evening, the surprise was unleashed in style. We had several visitors from the neighbouring lodge attend the ‘launch’ of our small film.
I have to admit that all of us involved were very pleased with the result, and the response to the film. It boosted the morale of the Lion Guardians as they watched their role in the community portrayed in the film.
It was therefore no surprise that when we landed on the barbecued goat, everything that was edible was cleared with relish.
here is the link to the video if you would like to watch.

This one below is of Justus making soup, using the intestines. Its quite bitter but very healthy. Recipe available on request.
My name is Antony Kasanga, Assistant Director of the Lion Guardians program.

I am glad to see things are coming together for your lion guardian efforts…I look forward to reading much more about them in this blog. And, although I might be convinced to taste a bit of BBQ’d goat, I think I’ll let you keep the goat intenstine soup a secret recipe!!

Very funny Christine. I wonder if I could get most of the ingredients at my local grcoery store? hehehe This is a great blog and I too, am anxious to meet the lions. I was very excited to look at the film, but for some reason my computer won’t play it. Can you put it on YouTube? Lisa, California

Great blog! And very nice video!! Its quite clear, informative and well… educative. Its good to see people in the local communities participating directly in conservation efforts.

Great guys that you showed the video to the community. We are very glad everybody was excited with it…Did you, by any chance, made some pictures of them watching it? Linda and i would love to see them and use them for our own website.
Antony you look super cool on your bike!

[…] The Lion Guardian for Kalesirua zone, to the south west of the group ranch, is Olubi Lairumbe, also known as Meitiaki. Meitiaki was a name he acquired after he killed a lion (Well, that was before he became a lion guardian). Maasai warriors are traditionally given a new name after they have successfully killed a lion. Those who watched the Lion Guardian video are familiar with him. Here’s a link to that post (29th September 2007.) http://lionguardians.wildlifedirect.org/2007/09/29/36/ […]
