New Friends in Camp

If you happen to visit camp one of these days; you will think there is no single soul living there. Maria and Ernest have gone home for their off duty days, leaving Justus and myself in camp.
This is Justus Supeet, our camp manager.
With rains in place birds sing sweet melodies making the environment even quieter. The distraption of crested Francolin sometimes scares us and at times signal the intrusion of Elephant that are around camp right now. The ripening of Amarula tree fruits attracts them. They seems not bothered by our noises as we try to chase them away. Possibly having a fruit that makes the most tasty drink, Amarula.

Hi Justus and Antony, I was just thinking how really dark it must get there at night, with only a torch or oil lamp for illumination. Here in the states, even the countryside has the benefit of street lights. You guys are brave! And then to hear the elephants rustling so close to camp…do you sleep with one eye open?

Hi Theresa,
We have enough solar power in camp. This helps us run computers and light the office and kitchen.
As for elephants at night, we are adapted to light sleeping. In that; we hear something moving close to our tents and that is when we get up and chase them away before they destroy our water tank. So it is true that we sleep one eye open.
