New lion cubs in the area!
Category: Lion Guardian reports | Date: Feb 03 2009 | By: lionguardians
The Guardians had a very successful end of month meeting. They brought us news from their areas of work, and told us they were all very happy as there has been some rain.
On the way to the meeting Lion Guardians Koikai and Lenkina discovered some lion tracks which they said were a female and some small cubs. They found the tracks near to one of our collared male lions Lentim (he is one of our 3 lions with GPS collars, whose tracks you can follow over the internet).
We were all very pleased to hear that there might be some new cubs in the area. After the meeting we sent Koikai and Lenkina back to the area to look around for more tracks, and we will give you any news about this when we have it. Wouldn’t it be great if we had some young cubs like this on our ranch?
Thanks so much to Pauline for telling us about the BBC programme. I am glad it was interesting. Hashi - I will ask whether your suggestion is possible.

Thanks for your concern for the young herder who was attacked by a lioness protecting her cubs. We have heard that he is doing fine, which is really great news.
I also wanted to remind you all to watch us on BBC2 this Sunday at 9pm. The programme is called Explore: The Rift Valley and we feature right at the end (as the grand finale)! So make sure you stay tuned until the end!
The Lion Guardians are all arriving in camp today for the end of month meeting tomorrow, so it is very busy here, with warriors everywhere demanding cups of tea! One of them has been walking since 4 in the morning to get here!
I’ll let you know how the meeting goes after tomorrow. Â
Hope you all have good weekends!

Category: Uncategorized | Date: Jan 26 2009 | By: lionguardians
We are very excited that the BBC piece on the Lion Guardians that they came to film in September will be shown in the UK on BBC2 on Sunday 1st Feb at 21:00. The programme we feature in is called Explore: the Rift Valley and is presented by Simon Reeve.
I am told we feature at the end of the hour long programme, which visits many other countries in the Great Rift Valley, including Djibouti and Ethiopia. I’m sure it will be really interesting - make sure you stay tuned to see the Lion Guardians at the end of the show!

BBC visit the Lion Guardians
Category: Lion Guardians work | Date: Sep 29 2008 | By: lionguardians
Last week we were visited by the BBC. They were making a documentary as part of a current affairs travelogue series. The series will be aired on BBC2 and Worldwide in early 2009.. so you have a bit of a wait before you can see us on TV!
They were very interested to film the story of the Lion Guardians, and we showed them the work we do, and told presenter Emeka Onono all about the problem of lion killing in Maasailand and how we try to stop it.
They asked the Guardians lots of questions about how and why they used to kill lions in the past, and why they have now changed their attitudes and are protecting lions instead.
We also told them all about the conflicts that the people here have with lions and other carnivores attacking their livestock, and what a big problem this is for livestock owners. I hope it will be a very interesting documentary to watch. I will make sure I tell you when it will be broadcast.

Busy with the BBC
Category: Lion Guardians work | Date: Sep 24 2008 | By: lionguardians
Sorry we haven’t made a post for a while. We are very busy hosting a BBC film crew who are staying with us to find out about the Lion Guardians. We hope that the film they make will encourage more people to read about our work and help us conserve lions. I will write more about this when we have finished filming.
